Country Heat~What's that all about?

The thing about this program is you DON'T need to know how to dance, you DON'T need rhythm or coordination. Autumn walks you through the steps and makes it really simple and fun! IT IS AMAZINGLY FUN!!!





WHAT IS COUNTY HEAT?

Country Heat is set to the hottest country hits. JoDee Messina even recorded an exclusive song for this program! There is NO CHOREOGRAPHY to remember, just follow along for the 30 minute workout!  This program is high energy, low impact dance workout that is super fun and easy to follow. Autumn Calabrese created this program and has also created the 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, Co Creator of Hammer and Chisel, author of the Fixate cookbook, mom and bikini competitor.  I have yet to do a live workout with her but I will one day! My friends who have says she is just as amazing and motivating in person as she is in her programs. 

There are 5 high energy, cardio based dance workouts, 1 dance conditioning workout, and the portion controlled eating plan! 

Who is Country Heat For?

Are you ready for this?? ANYONE! Whether you are a beginner, 21 day fix grad, pro dancer, football player, advanced in your fitness or ready for something fun and different to mix up your fitness regime. It is great for all ages and fitness levels. People who like Zumba or love to dance, people who want to lose weight and are looking for results in 30 days.  People who generally don't like to exercise or who want a lifestyle change, but aren't sure where to begin!

 This workout is great for people who have tried and failed at complicated "diets" and exercise programs.  It is great because this isn't a "diet"  It's an easy to follow portion control container system and you'll have ME as your coach to guide you every single step of the way! I don't know 'bout you but lots of the times I've attempted to start programs on my own I NEVER stuck with it.  You will learn how to properly fill the containers and what to eat. I will teach you how to meal plan, prep, and stick with the workouts from beginning to end.  Plus the workouts are fun and you don't even know you are working out. Totally kick ass right?

  I encourage everyone to do at least 2-3 rounds of the program. Just another reason why I LOVE this program. You can finish 1 round and start your next round the NEXT day!  The reason is that in the first 30 days you are just learning and getting into the swing of things. You are getting a good handle on your nutrition and understanding how the portion controlled containers work. Into your second month you will be able to focus are really getting the workouts down plus your nutrition will be on point. Your third round you will just be a total pro!

Fish Tacos


The first time I ever had fish Tacos was at Brown's Social House in Lethbridge.. a couple months ago.. I KNOW! I was TOTALLY missing out man. OH MY GOODNESS. I. Fell. In. Love. I am not a huge fan of trying new things.. ok, I used to be the one who didn't like to try new things but have started to branch out lately. 


These were FREAKING AMAZING! I figured I could try to make them at home. 


I tried with Basa and Salmon and both turned out great! 


Here is my recipe:


When you are eating clean there are a few words to stay away from- Pan Searing, Broiling, Breading, and Deep-Frying are some when it comes to meat.

I decided baking would be best or grilled would be amazing too! Geez, why didn't I think of that before! 


Fish Marinade Ingredients: 
2 Frozen basa fish fillets or any white mild fish ( works with Salmon as well)
2 tsp Lemon Dilly Seasoning ( Epicure) or just dill and some lemon juice 

1 tsp garlic powder
Dash Himalyian Pink Salt and Pepper

To Prepare the Fish: 
Defrost the fillets overnight in the fridge or if you are like me and forget you can place them ( in the package) in the sink full of cold water to defrost. 
Be sure to rinse them off and pat dry before sprinkling the seasoning over top. Place in a shallow baking dish or cookie sheet covered with foil or parchment paper and then squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice over each fillet. 
Let marinate for half hour in the fridge before cooking.

Preheat oven to 400F and cook fish 15-20 mins or until it flakes with a fork.

While the fish is cooking you can prepare your fixin's! My hubs isn't very keen on coleslaw so we just shredded green cabbage and carrots and sliced red onions and added diced tomatos as well.

Here is my coleslaw recipe if you like it on your tacos:
1/2 small head of Cabbage ( red or green)
1 Cup Shredded Carrots
1/4 C Plain low fat Greek Yogurt
1 3/4 Tbsp Cider Vinegar
2 Tsp Honey
Dash of Salt and Pepper

Mix all together and mix in with cabbage- Only use as much dressing as you want. Keep the rest in a container in the fridge for a couple days. 

The reason we didn't use coleslaw is because of this AWESOME Yogurt sauce that we used on our tacos instead. 

Sauce:
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt 
2 tbsp light mayonnaise 
1 tsp chili powder 
1/2 tsp cumin  

1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste ( I honestly don't use salt in things like these much but a little dash is ok for flavour
Sriracha Sauce (optional) just a dash for a little kick!


Throw it all into a bowl and mix real good! <<<--- Simply right?! 
Set aside for a few minutes before assembling tacos

Now Tortilla time! You can use Corn or Flour. You can also use small or large.  We only have Ancient Grain tortillas around and the large ones. I brushed the bottom with a little EVOO ( Olive Oil) and place in a pan. Once it started to bubble I flipped it over to get the other side and BAM they were ready! We cut them into 4 and made small tacos out of it! I won't take credit for that. That was my husbands idea! 

Immediately after the tortillas come off the pan assemble your tacos. 
Place some small chunks of the fish on to the middle of the tortilla, top with coleslaw or cabbage, carrot, onion and tomatoes, some sauce and a bit of hot sauce if you like a little more heat! 

VIOLA- Delicious at home FISH TACOS!

Nutrition Simplified

Have you ever heard any of these myths, "Carbs make you fat?" "You can eat all the healthy food you want. It is ok.. It's healthy!" "Eggs are bad for you." 
There are ALWAYS going to be different food trends out there. That is just the way we work.
I will tell you I believed all of the myths and trends that are out there before I became health conscious and learned about nutrition!
Truth is carbs don't make you fat, you actually can't eat ALL the "healthy" food you want and eggs are good for you in moderation. 
This is the one I hear ALL the time, " I am eating healthy but nothing is changing, what am I doing wrong?" 
Are you ready for the real kicker???? 
1. PORTIONING IS A REAL THING AND IS KEY! 
Know what that means?
You can eat as healthy and clean as you want but if you aren't doing it the right way then you won't see any difference!
SHOCKER RIGHT?!
This is the MAIN issue that people run into. They think they are helping their bodies by eating "healthy" food but get frustrated when they don't see a change and revert back to crappy habits.
That is why this kick ass little colour coded portion containers came out. To teach you the proper portions and help you eat right!!

How Weeding the Garden Applies to Our Lives


"A Negative Mind Won't Lead To A Positive Life." 

I did a Live Facebook Video on my FB PAGE this morning but decided I will write about it here too! 

I was out weeding my garden last Sunday, down in the dirt for hours it felt like, when I had a crazy lightbulb moment! 

AHA!!

I came about halfway into my bean row when I came to a small dinky little plant that I almost yanked because it honestly looked like a weed. All around it was weeds and thistles. I must have missed it every week allowing the weeds to just overtake the poor little gapher! 

The next plant was big and blooming nicely! There were few weeds around it. Why was this one doing so well when that other one was so pathetic looking? 

Well, here is the deal folks.. 

I made sure the weeds didn't over run it. I made sure they wouldn't suck up all the goodness for the bean plant, while the other one, wasn't so lucky. 

How does this compare to our lives? 

We are the bean plants and think of the weeds as ALL the negativity; negative actions, negative people, negative thoughts. toxic relationships.
What happens to us when all the negativity creeps up? 

It drags us down! It doesn't allow for growth! It holds us back from reaching our goals and dreams! 
Good things come around and we miss those chances do to lack of confidence, lack of support, lack of trust.

WELL NO MORE I TELL YA!

Once we "weed" out the negative we allow ourselves to soak up ALL the nutrients that life has to offer. We will start to thrive! We will start blooming and spreading all the GOOD that we have to offer! 

That is my thought for the day!

#TastyTuesday Black Bean Brownies

WHO DOESN'T LOVE CHOCOLATE?


Like all my recipe finds, I use them as templates and end up totally recreating them to my style. HAHA. Something that drives my husband nuts, however he has only complained about 1 THING in our whole 5 years together so I think I am doing alright.

Here is what you will need:

1 1/2 Cups Drained and Rinsed Black Beans
2 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1/2 Cup Gluten Free Oats (use reg if you aren't worried about this)
1/4 tsp salt (roughly guessing I just do a little dash dash ya know?.. but some people need hard measurments. Hey- no judging here!)
1/3 Cup Pure Maple Syrup ( none of that maple flavoured syrup stuff folks.. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE)
1/4 Cup Melted Coconut Oil
2 Tsp Pure Vanilla ( I use Watkins )
1/2 Tsp Gluten Free Baking Powder ( again reg is fine if your not worried about this)
2/3 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips ( Use whatever you like, however dark chocolate is better for you) 


Here is what you do:
  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Mix ALL ingredients ( minus the chocolate chips) into a food processer and blend until TOTALLY SMOOTH- here is the thing.. You can see some of the oats in my picture because I still don't own a food processor... *GASP* I know I know beggars can't be choosers right so I just used our Ninja Blender and it works but if you have a processor, you better use that thing!
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips reserving some to place on top if you wish 
  4. Pour into a 8x8 greased pan- I use glass and Pam spray for greasing
  5. Bake for 15-18mins until toothpick comes out clean when inserted.. They may seem really gooey but leave them sit a bit and they will firm up. They will be super fudgy but freaking delicious!!!
